Ready for some pastelon?!

Hi all! Some of you may have seen the IG post about my pastelon so of course I'm going to break it down for you on how to prepare this deliciously, sweet, savory and cheesy dish! I used a 8x8x2 glass square baking dish so the ingredients I will sharing on this post are exactly for that baking pan.


Ingredients are as follows:

1 pound ground beef

1 minced yellow onion

Garlic (minced) about 2/3 cloves

1 green pepper minced

2 teaspoons adobo

2 teaspoons oregano

1 envelop of salon (Goya)

salt

2/3 bay leaves

Bunch of cilantro

About 10 green stuffed olives (halved)

1/2 cup raisins

1/4 cup tomato sauce

4 (RIPE) plantains .... peeled and sliced length wise

3 eggs

a dash of milk

2 cups of shredded white cheese

vegetable oil


** Please note this is the gist of what you will need ( I know its quite a list but most of these items you probably have on hand) and you don't have to stick to this ingredient list either. For example, if you don't like something ... just don't include it =)


Once you have all your ingredients; time to prepare. 3,2,1...



Butter up your square pan and set aside.










Here is a visual of what the ground beef, onion, green pepper, adobo, sazon and cilantro looks like before they are cooked.








Ok, so I'm just assuming you know how to peel, slice and fry a plantain but if you don't, no worries I'm attaching a link to show you how https://youtu.be/XUTy2_OmPmI

Only thing is slice the plantain long wise, fry them set on a paper towel and then place in the dish the way it is here so that it creates a lasagna like layer!



After that first layer of plantain, add the beef mixture. I apologize for not including an image of the beef mix simmered with the tomato sauce,bay leaves, raisins and olives. You let that all simmer once the beef has been browned and the green pepper and onion is cooked through.





Next you add a handful of the shredded white cheese, then again the plantain, beef, cheese and you finish with plantain and white cheese up top.



Scramble egg and dash of milk pour it over and let it sit for 2 minutes


Bake it at 350 degrees for 20 mins.







And .... this is what it looks like when its out the oven ladies & gents!! The cheese is melted and the corners have that lovely crust. Time to slice a piece.







Garnish with cilantro or not. Grab a fork and devour!
